Seatopia: The last of the ancient sea kingdoms to survive to modern day. Due to its isolationist policy and well guarded entry points, Seatopia remained unknown to the rest of Mankind until 1973, when it launched a brief and unsuccessful attempt to conquer Japan. Considered to be hostile to all other Earth nations. Intelligence gathered from captured espionage agents have revealed bits of information, such as culture, history, and the national religious system.
Seatopia is ruled by a hereditary line of Emperors, purported to be unbroken since it’s withdrawal into obscurity. It is currently ruled by Marcus Aquarius, whose father overthrew the emperor responsible for the disastrous attempt on Japan. The Emperor is also the high priest of their compulsory religion, a cult centered on the Kaiju Megalon, whom they worship as the savior of their ancestors, and guardian of the kingdom today. Their culture is reminiscent of the classical world, their personal and place names reflecting some kind of link to the Latin language. Annual gladiatorial contests are held, with the champion earning privileged status, and a place in the Emperor’s private guard. The Seatopian’s are known to either farm or tame certain oceanic Kaiju, using them to guard against invasion.
The only alliance Seatopia is known to hold is with the Nebulans, as evidenced by them sending the cyborg Gigan to fight alongside Megalon. It is suspected that the catalyst for their hostility was the joint naval retaliation against the undersea bases of the Mysterians in 1959, which are suspected to have damaged large parts of the Kingdom.
In the ensuing years, rival factions arose, some wanting to end their isolation and establish peaceful relations with the surface world, others clamoring for war. Between 1960 and 1972 the factions grew more contentious, each side trying to gain more and more influence with the Emperor, who remained undecided on the issue, knowing how split the kingdom had become. In the later years of the civil unrest, violent, bloody street brawls often broke out between supporters, politicians were beaten, and even the Emperor became the target of war hungry radicals.
Eventually in 1972, a coup was successful in assassinating the Emperor, and in his place, the leader of the most prominent pro-war faction took the crown, justifying his position by claiming that he himself descended from a previous ruler. The previous emperor's cadre was executed, and supporters purged from all civil offices. However, after the 1973 failure of their attempt to conquer Japan, the Emperor was overthrown, and in a measure to curb the national embarrassment, all mentions of his name, written or chiseled, were systematically sought out and destroyed.

Attempts by the United Nation to offer them a seat in the assembly have been refused, their response reading, in part: “Seatopia and the surface world will come to peace one day, when the continents crumble and sink into the deep!”
